Welcome to the recap of Day 3 of GEO's 2018 National Conference! if you missed something during the day or you aren't able to join us in person in San Francisco, check out today's recap by Pia Infante, co-executive director of The Whitman Institute.
I am wondering if/how foundations have addressed Board member compensation as a matter of equity, diversity and inclusion. Specifically, I’d like to know if anyone has experience implementing a Board compensation policy designed to remove financial and/or cultural barriers that make it difficult or impossible for some (if not many) to consider Board service.
As more grantmakers are considering how they can advance change through their grantmaking, many funders are also thinking the need to strengthen their organizational cultures in order to work more effectively and have greater impact. Intentional cultural change work can take many different forms. Our conversation with Margie Jo Eun Joo Andreason, diversity, equity and inclusion manager at Northwest Area Foundation, and Paul Luna, president & CEO of Helios Education Foundation, during a recent GEO webinar showed two different approaches to culture change.
Leaders on the front lines need continued investment to continue the long-term fight for equity and justice. Miguel A. Santana explores how grantmakers can invest in leadership development.
As part of our capacity building program, we would like to provide scholarships for our grantees to attend trainings and conferences (both local and out-of-town) focused on racial equity. From GEO members who do provide scholarships, I'd love to hear more of the details of your program.
Greetings!
As community benefit organizations (non-profits) are competing for capacity building grants for strategic planning, board governance, etc. through a lens of social justice and equity, it’s becoming critically important for foundations to have a resource list of consultants and firms with this expertise. Does GEO or anyone else have a national roster?
Thanks in advance.
What is the risk position should intermediaries be taking in their respective ecosystems? How far out front on issues of equity, inclusion, and social justice should they be? What are best practices in staying in authentic integrity with the field/movement when they may be playing a resourcing role? Should intermediaries lead the way in diffusing the power dynamics of philanthropy through democratizing decision making and more?
In this GEOAsks interview, we talk to Dr. Gail Christopher, vice president for policy and senior advisor, to give us insight into their motivations behind this work and the emerging field of assessing the impact of racial equity work.
What started out two years ago as a simple “strategic plan refresh” quickly became a completely new direction for Blue Shield of California Foundation in our journey to make California the healthiest state and to end domestic violence. This post, which originally appeared on the Blue Shield of California Foundation's website, reflects on key lessons of listening, equity and humility.
The Mat-Su Health Foundation (MSHF) is interested in best or promising practices, or guidelines/policy that work for your foundation around funding faith-based programming/organizations that provide health and social services in the community. We are interested to know if you impose any restrictions on the use of funding for any types of faith activities and whether you require that the health and human service programs provided by faith-based entities serve ALL residents regardless of their faith, gender identification and/or sexual orientation.
Thank you in advance.
