GEOList Summary: Using Social Media

  • Rumsha Ahmed, January 31, 2011

We are in the process of re-evaluating the forms and methods of external communication we use as a foundation. Currently, we have a simple web site and basic blog. As a benchmarking exercise to inform our future plans, I'd like to direct a couple of questions to those of you who use social media (blogs, facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) as part of your foundation work: (1) Why does your foundation use social media as part of its own communication practices? (2) What evidence have you seen that the use of social media has advanced the mission of your foundation? Additionally, if you have intentionally chosen not to engage in social media activities at your foundation, I would like to know your rationale for making that decision. The focus of our benchmarking is on foundation use of social media and not on the use of social media by grantees.
