GEOList Summary: Leadership Development Program Comparators

  • Rumsha Ahmed, March 12, 2015

United Way Toronto is currently reviewing its leadership development work. We would appreciate any reports from GEO community members comparing leadership development programs funded by foundations which included certification from an educational institute. We are interested in programs supported by foundations because such programs frequently have a value base, support change for a specific constituency, or have a theory of change (this is in opposition to a generic leadership certification course run by a college). A good example of this type of program is the recently announced Baruch College and the New York Community Trust’s Leadership Fellows Program. We would be interested in finding out about: comparisons of key features of the programs, best practices, the background to program design, outcomes and any longitudinal post program results. As well, if you have run leadership development programs with an educational institution we would appreciate information on the annual costs & number of participants. The last request on our bucket list of inquiries relates to work with alumni of leadership development programs. Our work has told us this component is as important, if not more important, than the program itself. We could appreciate any reports, good practices or advice on post program work with participants in the application of their learnings & support to make change.
