Independent Sector’s National Summit brings together nonprofit, philanthropic and corporate giving leaders from across the country to imagine and build a more resilient, equitable future together. Under the theme The Future We Build Together, the summit focuses on co-creation, shared leadership and collective momentum while offering space to address pressing sector challenges, strengthen institutional practices and deepen public trust.
During the conference, GEO will lead a breakout session on designing philanthropic governance for community power. Grounded in the summit’s Trusted & Well-Governed track, the session explores how board structures can evolve beyond basic fiduciary oversight toward deep, authentic community accountability. Drawing on insights from GEO’s recent field research, participants will examine real-world approaches and leave with actionable pathways to transition toward shared governance and ensure grantmaking practices genuinely reflect equity commitments.
