In times of multiple and overlapping crises, prioritizing effective philanthropic governance can seem like a luxury. Yet it is the work of philanthropic governance — the high-stakes decisions about foundation spending, strategy, time horizon and investments — that determines how a grantmaker is responsive to the needs of nonprofits and the communities they serve.
In this interactive one-hour session, Dimple Abichandani draws on her experience as both a board member and an executive director partnering with a board to explore how governance can pivot beyond basic compliance. Building on her book, A New Era of Philanthropy, Dimple will illustrate why reimagined governance is essential to forging a philanthropy that meets this moment.
Together, participants will explore an approach to philanthropic governance that is responsive, proximate, accountable and transparent — much like the approach outlined in GEO’s Toward Meaningful, Valuable, Equitable Governance. We will dive into seven generative questions trustees can use to move toward courageous, values-driven action, and you will leave with practical prompts to bring directly into your next board meeting.
This event is open to GEO members only. Please contact us prior to registration if you are unsure of your current member status or have questions about joining as a new member.
