Community Foundation Governance Convening

Join GEO, CFLeads and Community Foundation Opportunity Network (CFON) for an important conversation about how CEOs/Executive Directors and board leaders can collaborate to shift community foundation board culture and practice toward a more equitable, meaningful, and valuable relationship with the organization.

This convening, which emerged from a growing interest in our sector about the potential for more effective governance, has taken on greater urgency given the challenges we’re all facing—challenges that require grantmakers to be more aligned both internally and collectively with our partners and communities. Because GEO members are committed to transforming philanthropy, GEO has developed a learning initiative to support grantmakers who are exploring their governance practices, structure and culture as an important lever for change. We’re excited to partner with CFLeads and CFON to offer this program for community foundations across the country. Community foundation members have told us about the importance of having a specific space designed for your particular context and leadership role you play in your communities.

This two-day roundtable conversation will bring together an intimate group of ~8-12 pairs of community foundation CEOs/Executive Directors and board leaders who are imagining new ways of working together in service of their missions. If you have been thinking about or actively shifting your organization’s approach to governance and are ready for a practical conversation about what it takes to change in the current context, this convening is for you.

To be considered for participation, you must join as a pair (or trio): a President, CEO and/or Executive Director of a community foundation PLUS a board member of the same community foundation. For organizations with shared leadership models, you may attend as a trio with co-staff leaders or two board members.

This opportunity is open to current members of GEO, CFLeads and CFON as well as member-eligible organizations. If you have questions about your GEO membership status or eligibility to join, reach out to GEO’s Membership & Development Manager Autumn Shepherd-Van Patten at shepherd@geofunders.org.

There is a program fee for this offering which covers materials and meals throughout the convening. Scholarships and sliding scale pricing based on your organizational context is available. Participants cover their own travel, lodging and other associated costs with getting to and from the convening location.

GEO Member fee: $500 per person ($1,000 per organization)
Non-member fee: $1,000 per person ($2,000 per organization)
