Equity in Practice: Advancing Community-Driven Philanthropy

In partnership with The Colorado Health Foundation

What does it really look like to put community voice, trust and shared power into practice?

If you’re a grantmaker who wants to strengthen community-driven approaches in your day-to-day work, this highly interactive workshop is for you. Through practical tools, peer exchange, reflection and hands-on exercises, you’ll examine where community voice and shared power show up in your current practices — and identify concrete opportunities to go further.

Together, we’ll explore questions of trust, participation, equity and decision-making, while considering how these ideas can shape everything from grantmaking strategy and participatory processes to organizational planning and evaluation. You’ll have space to learn from peers, test ideas against real challenges and leave with resources you can put to use right away.

You’ll leave with clearer next steps for engaging communities in more meaningful ways, strengthening trust-based and equitable practices, and translating community-driven values into organizational and grantmaking decisions.

Key Learning Objectives

You will:

  • Explore grantmaking practices that build trust, shift power and strengthen relationships with nonprofits and communities.
  • Gain tools to assess and strengthen alignment between your current grantmaking practices and community-driven approaches.
  • Develop actionable next steps to better align your grantmaking practices and strategy with participation, partnership and shared power.
  • Exchange examples, stories and approaches with peers to deepen your understanding of community-driven philanthropy and identify ideas you can adapt to your own context.
