Staffing Boards Peer Community

A peer community for non-CEO staff who work closely with grantmaker boards to strengthen governance practices, navigate challenges and build more equitable, values-aligned board relationships.

About the Community

Grantmaker boards are an essential lever for change in philanthropy. This peer community supports staff who work with boards to explore and make changes to governance practices and culture, and to better align governance with mission and values. Participants will connect with peers to share insights, learning and resources, while surfacing concrete practices that help make boards more equitable, meaningful and valuable.

This peer community is for non-CEO staff who work with grantmaker boards, including board liaisons, corporate secretaries, chiefs of staff, executive office managers, senior leaders, learning staff and others who support the work of the board.

GEO offers other programs for CEOs and trustees, including a CEO Peer Community. You must be a current GEO member to join.

Members of the peer community come together quarterly in virtual meetings to discuss shared questions, challenges and opportunities in our work with boards.

Topics of interest include board learning, board management, relationships and power, and supporting boards to operate at the governance level. Topics are shaped by participant input.

This peer community is a pilot, building on GEO’s multiyear governance initiative.
