Membership FAQs

To be eligible for GEO membership, your organization must be one of the following: 

  • A grantmaking institution, such as a foundation, a corporate giving program, a government funder, a United Way or a venture philanthropy organization. 
  • An infrastructure group, such as a philanthropy serving organization, that serves grantmakers as its primary members. 
  • An academic program at an accredited institution where philanthropy is the primary focus of your research or coursework.
  • NEW FOR 2026: Consultants working with philanthropic organizations play a unique role in our sector’s trajectory and transformation, and we’re excited to invite more voices into GEO’s community of peers. Apply by November 22 to be considered and join our Get to Know GEO session on November 6 to learn more.

GEO members and funders join GEO as a way to support an agenda of shared change and to participate in transforming philanthropic culture and practice.   

Members have access to specific perks designed to deepen engagement and maximize member participation, such as early conference registration, priority entry for program participation and advance access to publications.

As we’ve continued to navigate 2025’s complex landscape, we’ve been reminded again and again how valuable sharing space with one another is. Change happens in community, and we’re eager to invite more voices into our community of peers working to transform philanthropy.

GEO is more than just a membership or professional development resource; it’s a space for collaboration, reflection, and collective action.

To be considered for the 2026 pilot, please complete a short application here. We will be hosting a Get to Know GEO session on November 6th to share more about GEO’s offerings and answer any questions you may have. The application is open now through November 22nd. Our team will review applications and share decisions in early December.  All pilot memberships will run January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026. Consultant memberships will have their own contribution schedule based on size:

  • Individual: $1,000
  • Organization, 2-10 staff: $3,000
  • Organization, 11-24 staff: $5,000
  • Organization, 25+ staff: $7,000
