The Equitable Evaluation Initiative, Grantmakers for Effective Organizations and The Kresge Foundation are joining strengths to offer the Equitable Evaluation Teaching Case. This pilot teaching case uses Kresge’s FreshLo (Fresh, Local & Equitable) Initiative as a learning platform, sharing where the evaluator, program office and funder explored ways in which equitable evaluation principles could be integrated into an existing evaluation in its early stages. This teaching case is designed for philanthropic evaluation professionals to explore key decisions, tension points, and differences related to main evaluation-related activities when Equitable Evaluation principles are applied in the first year of an existing evaluation.

Registration Rates: • GEO member (annual grantmaking budget 25M+): $850 • GEO member (annual grantmaking budget under 25M): $650 • Nonmember (annual grantmaking budget 25M+): $1000 • Nonmember (annual grantmaking budget under 25M): $800
Registrant Eligibility: • All registrants must represent grantmaking organizations • Due to the small size of this event, we request no more than two registrants from the same grantmaking organization

About the organizers
Through the FreshLo Initiative, the Kresge Foundation’s Arts & Culture and Health programs collaborated to fund neighborhood-scale projects demonstrating creative, cross-sector visions of food-oriented development. WIth FreshLo, Kresge is the first national funder to intentionally and equitably integrate food, art and community to drive neighborhood revitalization at this scale. Launched in 2015, FreshLo strengthens low-income communities by integrating Creative Placemaking and food-oriented development. In 2017, following the completion of a planning phase, Kresge granted $4.6 million to 23 communities to develop innovative approaches to economic development, cultural expression and health through food-oriented development. FreshLo includes a National Program Office that provides strategic guidance, manages daily operations, supports strategic learning, and works with partners to build capacity. As the evaluator, Learning for Action strives to provide actionable, data-driven insights and recommendations based on rigorous research that is also grounded in a community perspective to catalyze social change.
The Equitable Evaluation Initiative (EEI) is building a community of philanthropic, evaluation and non-profit players to explore, prototype and practice EE principles in order to learn together, co-create together and build a collective knowledge base.
