Partner Call: First Repair: Municipal and Philanthropic Collaboration towards Local Reparations

This offering will highlight Evanston’s process for philanthropic organizations to identify the right stakeholders and build a reparations movement at the local or national level.

Event Details

Reparations to identify and address the injuries to the Black community that have created the inequities in society are necessary on the local level, as well as on the federal level. Evanston, IL, has been a leader in this work with former Alderman Robin Rue Simmons, the commitment of the city government, and a deep collaboration with the Evanston Community Foundation. This partner call will highlight Evanston’s process for philanthropic organizations to identify the right stakeholders and build a reparations movement at the local or national level.

Participants should expect to reflect on meaningful stakeholder engagement and get curious about identifying appropriate remedies to anti-Black practices. There will be a Q&A portion at the end for you to ask questions regarding the movement for reparations. This will be a webinar platform and be a hybrid in-person/virtual event. In-person attendees will be at the Reparations Symposium hosted in Evanston, IL for reparations leaders across the country; virtual attendees will be from the GEO community.
