Geo & Candid Webinar: Open for Good: Sharing Knowledge to Advance Foundation Impact

Attend this webinar to learn how sharing knowledge can drive broader impact across the social sector.

Event Details

There’s an old saying that knowledge is power, but in philanthropy real power emerges when knowledge is shared rather than kept. Philanthropy is uniquely positioned to generate knowledge. Foundations deploy financial resources and human intelligence to test solutions to pressing social, economic, and environmental issues. They partner with evaluators to gather data about their efforts, reflect on what they are learning, and apply those lessons in service of greater impact. By sharing what they learn, foundations can advance their own work and benefit others. However, most grantmakers have not fully evolved to create a culture of learning and sharing.

This webinar will explore how foundations can take specific steps to better support knowledge-sharing, by providing an introduction to Candid’s #OpenForGood initiative and related field scan and how-to guide, and asking participants to identify challenges and possible solutions when it comes to opening up knowledge for the greater good. Recent #OpenForGood award-winning foundations will share their insights and lessons learned in shifting to a culture of learning. Janet Camarena, director of transparency initiatives of Candid will provide an overview of Candid tools that are designed to advance knowledge sharing. And Meg Long, co-weaver of the Funder & Evaluator Affinity Network will share opportunities to participate in ongoing discussions on this topic.

Start: Tuesday, September 17, 2:00 PM Eastern

End: Tuesday, September 17, 3:00 PM Eastern

Attend this webinar to learn how sharing knowledge can drive broader impact across the social sector. Building on a recent field scan and interviews with leaders across the globe, we will explore the following questions:

  • Why share knowledge? What are the benefits and for whom?
  • What barriers get in the way of foundations sharing their knowledge, and what are practical strategies for overcoming those barriers?
  • How can knowledge-sharing be used to level power dynamics and advance equity?
  • What role can technology play in helping to simplify the act of knowledge sharing?
