Demystifying Nonprofit Capacity Builders

Knowing when and how to partner with capacity building organizations

Event Details

Please note: This call is for San Diego Grantmakers, Northern California Grantmakers and Southern California Grantmakers members or California members of GEO only.

In the nonprofit sector, capacity building support can help nonprofits build and strengthen their long term sustainability and effectiveness. What do funders need to know when considering providing capacity building support to their nonprofit grantees, and how do they make the case for capacity building to their board? By better understanding the needs of their grantees and the landscape of capacity building resources, funders can assess whether they can directly provide capacity building support or partner with outside capacity builders instead. Capacity building organizations can help funders of all sizes – from small foundations to larger institutions — explore a nonprofit’s needs through diverse approaches, and help determine options to effectively provide capacity building support by examining the nonprofit’s program model, financial and human resources, management structure, and more.
