The national conference has been GEO's signature program since the organization's founding in the late 90s and has consistently been rated as one of the most valuable aspects of GEO membership.
The conference typically attracts 500-600 attendees, who come from a variety of roles in their organizations. At previous national conferences, about half of our attendees were program staff, 25 percent were CEOs of grantmaking organizations, and three percent were foundation trustees.
Why Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh has a rich, recognized history of innovation and is responsible for many of the country's and world's firsts, in fields as varied as health-care, robotics, metals, food and beverage, and sports. With a vibrant culture, a healthy economy and an unemployment rate that is nearly two percent lower than the nation's, it is no wonder that the city has twice been voted the most livable city in America.
While choosing Pittsburgh as the host city for the Group of 20 summit, President Obama proudly stated, "Pittsburgh stands as a bold example of how to create new jobs and industries while transitioning to a 21st-century economy.

As a city that has transformed itself from the city of steel to a center for high-tech innovation - including green technology, education and training and research and development - Pittsburgh will provide both a beautiful backdrop and a powerful example for our work."
At GEO, we couldn't agree more.
