Many grantmakers get so involved in the how of organizational learning they lose sight of the why. GEO’s 2007 conference on organizational learning in philanthropy — held in partnership with The Communications Network, the Consortium of Foundation Libraries, Council on Foundations, Grants Managers Network and Technology Affinity Group — focused on learning as a means for improvement. Conference participants explored ways organizational learning can lead to improved results — both for grantmakers and the grantees they support. Sessions covered the variety of ways in which organizational learning tools such as evaluation, knowledge management and technology can facilitate learning at three levels:
1) within grantmaking organizations; 2) across foundations; and 3) with grantees.
Attendees also had the opportunity to experiment with various models for group learning through alternative session formats.
This topic-specific conference was smaller with more focused content than GEO's biennial national conference. GEO's next national conference will be in March 2008. View the conference program.
