Irene M. Ibarra is the president and CEO of The Colorado Trust, a grantmaking foundation focused on health. Prior to coming to The Colorado Trust., Irene served as the executive vice president of The California Endowment. She was also CEO of the Alameda Alliance for Health, a nonprofit health plan in Alameda County, California. She previously served in Colorado Governor Roy Romer’s cabinet as Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Social Services, and as Deputy Manager for the Denver Department of Social Services as an appointee of Mayor Federico Pena.
Irene holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Washington. She also has a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Social Work in Community Services and Social Planning from the University of Denver. She completed the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government. Irene has served on numerous community and foundation boards, including the Casey Family Programs Foundation, Blue Shield of California Foundation and the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health. She currently serves on the boards of the Colorado Association of Funders, the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado and the Colorado Health Institute.
