GEO 2008 National Conference and 10th Anniversary Celebration
March 10-12, 2008
the Palace Hotel
San Francisco

Check back at www.geofunders.org later this spring for conference highlights and details on future GEO events.

The nonprofit sector is built on big ideas and visions of change. Effectively implementing those changes is the hard part. GEO’s 2008 national conference and 10th anniversary celebration, held in partnership with Northern California Grantmakers, will explore actions grantmakers can take to improve their support of nonprofit results and advance their visions of social change. Sessions will cover a variety of topics, including the following:

  • The art of "sticky" storytelling — Chip Heath, author of the best-seller Made to Stick, will explore ways grantmakers can effectively share the powerful stories in the field in a way that will inspire action
  • The power of the individual — Steps individual actors — within both foundations and nonprofits — can take to lead change.
  • The importance of inclusiveness — how grantmakers effectively tap into the experience and ideas of nonprofits and other stakeholders for improved results.
  • Philanthropy's change agenda for the next decade — As GEO celebrates its 10th anniversary, what has the field accomplished over the years, and what is our vision for the future?

Information on Previous GEO Conferences
The national conference of Grantmakers for Effective Organizations takes place every other year, in even-numbered years.

In the meantime, please check out materials and reports from previous GEO conferences:

  • Powerful Partnerships: Grantmaker Practices that Improve Grantee Performance, March 8-10, 2006, Sheraton Atlanta, Atlanta, GA. GEO's fifth national conference focused on the critical relationship between grantmakers and grantees. Featuring leading thinkers from inside and outside philanthropy, the conference featured a variety of fresh perspectives to the question: How can we best improve our partnerships with grantees?

"It was one of the best conferences I've been to. I came away with lots of information and ideas. Thanks for the work you do!" -- GEO Member

  • Aligning for Results reports on GEO's 2004 National Conference that took place in Seattle, WA.

"I thought it was a good offering of evaluation sessions (and good to keep pushing at these in the next conference) and for ways of positioning evaluation within the context of other foundation issues and functions. All in all, congratulations for one of the most interesting targeted conferences I've experienced in philanthropy!" -- GEO Member

"Kudos on having a conference of 'thinkers -- people really working to move the field." -- GEO Member
