Growing Social Impact in a Networked World

A Grantmakers' Gathering on Networks

San Francisco | October 17-18, 2011

Hosted by Grantmakers for Effective Organizations and Monitor Institute

Conference Description

GEO and the Monitor Institute hosted an interactive convening focused on how funders can increase their impact by supporting networks and embracing more open and collaborative approaches to grantmaking. Attendees explored concrete examples and tools that grantmakers can use to tap the power of networks and increase peer-to-peer learning among grantmakers who are experimenting with networks. This gathering was designed for grantmakers who:

  • have been intentionally experimenting with supporting and working through networks;
  • are "accidental network funders" — ended up supporting networks in service of their overall programmatic goals and would like to step back think about how to increase their effectiveness; or
  • have been learning about networks and social change, see the potential, and are interested in doing more.

Conversations were highly intereactive and grounded in philanthropic practice.
